Safewater Backflow and Irrigation offers hydrant flow tests in Austin, TX, to check for flow rate and water pressure as required by the State. Private Fire Hydrant testing and maintenance is required to be conducted annually to conform with NFPA 25, Chapter 4 (for more information go to NFPA.org).

What happens during the Hydrant inspection?

Safewater Backflow and Irrigation performs both annual inspections and initial tests required for new installations. The inspection can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour per hydrant, depending on the quantity on site.
Here are the basic inspection points of a Private Fire Hydrant:

Identify the number of hydrants and location

Access the condition of the hydrant(s)

Perform a pressure test on the hydrant

Test the Flow to determine the amount of water is coming from the hydrant

Once the test is completed, a copy of the test and maintenance report for each private fire hydrant will be Submitted to the Austin Water Utility’s Special Services Division.
